A £50,000 landfill grant will help make a Warrington church hall more comfortable, flexible and energy efficient.
Stockton Heath Methodist Church has received the grant from the landfill communities funds via WREN, to improve the hall in Walton Road.
This first stage of the project will allow the old windows to be replaced with double-glazed units. A new toilet block and baby changing facility will be constructed.
Church funding will allow loft insulation to be added, alterations to meeting rooms to enable more flexible use, new rear access doors and heating and power improvements.
A variety of fundraising events have been held including an Open Gardens Day, a wedding event, concerts and a Talents event, where members are given money to start a venture.
Dolls clothes, bags and holdalls, bird boxes, lemon cheese, paintings have all been sold to help fundraising. Money has gone to the church and other charities.
Fundraising co-ordinator Kit Heald said: “Our vision and fundraising does not stop here, further work will be carried out over the next two years to complete our vision for the use of this hall as a major community resource in the village.”
