Childrens' Centres set to celebrate

CHILDRENS’ centres throughout Warrington will be celebrating as part of the UK’s first National Sure Start Children’s Centre Week starting next Monday September 14.
They will join national celebrations by holding a series of consultation and special events.
A family fun and health day will be held at The Woodlands Sure Start Children’s Centre, Admirals Road, Birchwood, on Monday September 21 from 10am to 2pm.
West Children Centre, St Thomas Church, London Road, Stockton Heath, has a consultation event on Thursday September 17 from 12 noon to 3pm. It will look at services to be available at the new Cobb’s Children’s Centre. Kevin the Clown will also entertain.
An event will be held at the Sunshine Children’s Centre, O’Leary Street, Orford, on Friday September 18 from 10am to 2pm.
Attending will be health and library workers, CAB, breast feeding support, extended services, environmental services, children’s centre staff and Kids Planet childcare. The event is aimed at young families and a balloon launch is also planned.
Sandy Lane Children’s Centre, Sandy Lane, Orford is holding an event on Thursday September 17. The Shining Stars event will be held from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
There will be games, parachutes, bubbles and face painting and new families can look around and talk to current users. The centre’s new Adult Learning Programme will be launched.
Centres will be offering their normal programme during the week.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, executive board member for children and young people said: “These centres offer local families important childcare, health, education and support services. They are important community facilities and I hope many people will take this opportunity to visit and see them in action.”
