Brexiteers attack town’s two MP’s over Commons vote

MEMBERS of the Warrington4Brexit campaign group have attacked the town’s two MPs for voting in favour of amendments which they believe were designed to stop the UK leaving the European Union.
They claim Warrington North MP Helen Jones and Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid’s decision was a “total betrayal” of Labour’s 2017 manifesto pledge to respect the result of the Referendum.
In a statement, the group said: “People waited 40 years for a chance to have a vote on EU integration and since LEAVE won, they’ve waited years for the result to be implemented.
“Our MP’s actions don’t respect democracy or the Warrington electorate which voted to leave.”
A spokesperson for Warrington4Brexit added: “At our rallies, most people who come over to chat tell us that they feel now there is no party they could vote for – they are politically homeless. Trust in politicians has gone.”
Warrington4Brexit are holding another rally at Market Gate this Saturday, 12.30pm to 2.30pm and another demonstration at the Town Hall on Sunday at 1.30pm to which all Brexit supporters are invited.
In addition they are holding weekly meetings at Woolston Social Club, in Manchester Road WA14AD every Thursday from 7.15 to 9.15pm.
The group was in buoyant mood after the House of Commons voted down to amendments which they say could have led to Brexit being blocked or stopped altogether – the “Grieve amendment” which called for votes on alternatives to the Prime Minister’ deal, possibly paving the way to a second referendum, and the “Cooper amendment” tabled by Labour backbencher Yvette Cooper, which proposed an extension to Article 50 if no deal is reached with the EU by February 26.
A spokesperson said: “It was clearly an attempt to cripple Brexit altogether and had it succeeded it would have undermined completely this country’s chances of getting an acceptable deal from the EU.”
