A WOMAN was taken to hospital at Warrington after being overcome by smoke while fighting a fire at her home.
The blaze was in the kitchen at a house in Haslemere Drive, Penketh and involved a pan of food left on a cooker.
It burst into flames and although the woman extinguished it by putting a wet tea towel over the pan, the house was heavily smokelogged.
Two fire engines and an ambulance responded to a 999 call and the woman was given oxygen at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Smoke affected both floors in the house but fire damage was restricted to the kitchen.
