Could town’s roads be re-designed to improve your health?

A NEW report poses the question ~”Could Warrington’s roads be re-designed to improve your health?”
The report is from health watchdog NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) – and it has been welcome by Warrington’s bus chief, Ben Wakerley (pictured).
NICE says future road schemes should prioritise pedestrians, bus passengers and cyclists over cars and that businesses should introduce exercise programmes and provide bicycle facilities.
The report suggests  the changes should be made to tackle the obesity problem.
Mr Wakerley, managing director of Warrington’s Own Buses, said: “Local transport plans are an opportunity for us to promote Warrington’s public transport and to give people greater incentives to use it and fewer incentives to drive cars.
“It is important that public transport is actively promoted, as it alleviates traffic congestion and improves air quality.  Using the bus more means people are more active, more green and reduces the number of cars on our roads”
NICE are running a consultation on their report and anyone who would like to take part can find it at nice.org.uk in the “get involved” section.
Deadline for taking part is February 1.
