TWO young women were killed and two other seriously injured when their car crashed as they drove to the Creamfields music festival, near Warrington.
The two who died were aged 20 and 21 and were from Maghull, on Merseyside and County Durham. The two injured women, both 19, were from Ormskirk and Maghull.
The accident occurred on Higher Road, Halewood, Liverpool on Saturday morning. It is believed no other vehicle was involved. The car apparently left the road and collided with a lamp post.
The two injured women are being treated at Whiston Hospital.
All four women are believed to be students.
Police have reported no problems from the Creamfields festival itself.
But the festival site at Daresbury suffered from heavy rain and a chill wind.
Thousands of pop fans were soaked to the skin and covered in mud but enjoyed two days of music by internationally known artists.
Local residents – many of who had campaigned to have the festival stopped – reported a late night noise nuisance with people in Appleton, Stretton, Daresbury and even as far away as Lymm able to hear the bass notes of the music.
Police, who mounted major campaigns to combat drugs, alcohol, anti-social behaviour, traffic problems, etc, are expected to issue a statement on the festival later.
