Mystery firm promises 800 jobs

A MYSTERY firm is promising 800 new jobs in a revamped office complex at Warrington.
The refurbishing building, at Woolston Grange Avenue, Birchwood would be used 24 hours a day, seven days a week – but the end user has asked to remain anonymous at present.
Plans have been drawn up to refurbish an existing building and erect a four-storey extension for offices and storage/workshop space.
Planning chiefs are recommending that the application, by Commercial Development Projects Ltd, be approved.
It means redevelopment comprising 7,662 square meters of new office floor space, 3,192 square meters of ancillary workshop and facilities and a 200 square meters gatehouse/lodge building.
A report to the borough council’s development control committee states: “The end-user of the development is known, and has requested confidentiality concerning their identity.”
Routine maintenance of the occupier’s vehicles would take place in the ancillary workshop.
The premises were until recently occupied by Cable and Wireless. The new extension will be connected by a link building to the refurbished block.
A total of 450 parking spaces would be provided. Access to the site would be taken from the existing access point from the traffic island on Woolston Grange Avenue, via Longbarn Boulevard.
There is one objection from a neighbour saying it would overlook houses on Blackburne Close and cause traffic and parking problems.
But planners say houses on Blackburne Close would face the proposed new building at minimum distances of over 70 metres and the proposal is considered not to impact unduly on living conditions.
Planners say there was unlikely to be traffic or parking problems for residents.
Nearby residents are concerned about possible parking problems and the availability of other sites where the proposal could be located.
