WARRINGTON Town produced their best performance of a disappointing start to the season – but are still looking for their first points of the season.
Town started the brighter of the two sides, with Rob Dutton, replacing the absent Jimmy McCarthy in attack, starting particularly well.
Town’s first chance fell to winger Chris Gahgan, who saw his weak shot saved. Dutton was next to go close, when he forced ‘keeper Mike Hale into a save at his near post.
Town’s best chance again fell to Dutton, who saw his effort blocked by the home defence after a poor clearance by Hale. Town were indebted to skipper Mike Tomlinson for producing a fine block just before half time, to keep the game goalless at the interval.
Bamber Bridge came out brighter and started the half quickly and should have gone ahead. But veteran striker Phil Eastwood screwed his effort wide of the target. Phil Hadland saw his shot go over shortly afterwards.
Town went behind in the 56th minute, when winger Craig Sargeson was left unmarked to head beyond Mottram and into the net.
The home side should have gone further ahead when winger Ryan Zico-Black shot off target.
Bamber Bridge were now in charge and went close shortly afterwards, being denied a second by Mottram. After the introducton of the three substitutes, Town got back into the game, and went close through Chris Gahgan and Mick O’Donnell, but could not find a deserved equaliser.
