Drivers warned about car thefts

A SPATE of thefts from vehicles across Warrington has prompted police to issue a warning to motorists.
Drivers are being urged to ensure their cars are locked and secure at all times.
Valuable items – including sat navs – have been snatched from vehicles – with two incidents in the Armstrong Close area of Birchwood in the space of a week.
In the first incident, which happened overnight, a sat nav was stolen from a car parked in the street. In the second incident another car in the street was targeted but nothing was taken.
In many of the cases reported across the town thieves have targeted cars which have been left insecure overnight.
Inspector Richard Spedding said: “Drivers should ensure that their vehicle is locked and secure at all times. Too many drivers are leaving their vehicles insecure and leaving valuable items – including CD players, laptops and sat nav equipment – on display. This is, in effect, an open invitation for thieves to take them. Taking simple steps – like ensuring you lock your car and remove valuables items from inside can make all the difference.”
Residents are urged to be on their guard and to report any incidents to police. Anyone with any information about this type of crime can call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
