PEOPLE who live in and around Central Warrington are being invited to help shape the future of their community.
The borough council and partners are currently developing the Warrington Central 6 Regeneration Masterplan – a project to produce a plan that will guide development, investment and projects in the central wards of the borough for the next 25-30 years.
Now, people who live or work in the central area are being encouraged to have their say over the plans and play their part in designing, prioritising and influencing the ideas and projects that get taken forward into the future.
The first round of engagement activities begin today and continue until November 25 with a series of drop-in events in each of Central Warrington’s six areas. Alongside these, there will be a series of additional events with community groups, schools, colleges and business.
It’s the start of a programme of activity which, over the next six months, will give local people a range of opportunities to get involved in the plans.
The council’s lead member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “The Central Area Masterplan is a major priority for us. We want to build a future that works for everyone in the area, a place where people can thrive. To achieve that, it’s vital that these plans are shaped by the people who really matter – local residents.
“I would urge everyone with an interest in the future of Central Warrington to get involved in our discussions, and help shape our plans and priorities. All ideas will be taken on board, and will contribute to a masterplan that considers how people will live, move around, work and play in the area, over the next three decades.”
The drop-in events take place as follows:

• Wednesday November 14
12noon-4pm: Warrington Hospital Lobby, Lovely Lane, WA5 1QG
2.30pm-4.30pm: Little Stars’ Children’s, Boulting Avenue, WA5 0HA
• Thursday November 15
10am-12noon: Westy Community Centre, Bridgewater Avenue, WA4 1TA
12.30pm-2.30pm: Latchford Community Hub St Margaret’s, Lindley Avenue, WA4 1QB
• Thursday November 22
10am-5pm: Orford Jubilee Hub, Jubilee Way, WA2 8HE
• Saturday November 24
10am-1pm: Orford Community Hub, Festival Avenue, WA2 9EW
People can also get involved by completing an online questionnaire, which asks people to consider priorities such as housing, jobs, the environment, leisure and culture and also encourages people to share any big ideas for their local area. In addition, a Facebook page has been set up, fb.me/central6masterplan, which people can link to.
All key messages and emerging priorities will be shared with the community early in the new year, when there will be another chance for people to contribute to the plans for the area.
The areas mainly covered by the masterplan are the wards of: Bewsey and Whitecross, Fairfield and Howley, Orford, Latchford East, Latchford West and Poplars and Hulme.
