Dream comes true for young fans

A DREAM came true for two young footballers from Warrington when they escorted their heroes, Manchester United, onto the pitch for their FA Community Shield match against Chelsea.
Reece Kian Farmer, aged seven, and Ryan Taylor, 10, were given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a Player Escort at Wembley.
And for Reece, a pupil of Cinnamon Brow Primary School and player for Fife Rangers, it was a double treat weekend. The day before he saw his beloved Warrington Wolves qualify for Wembley.
His grandmother Margaret Farmer, who entered him for the mascot competition, said Reece was due in Wembley on the Saturday but was “double-booked” as he did not want to miss the Warrington match.
Reece has been a fan since he was three and he and dad Ian are season ticket holders.
Organisers agreed to him missing the special lunch and meeting with World Cup hero Geoff Hurst the day before the United match – but he was in plenty of time for the Sunday game.
The two Warrington boys were among others chosen after relatives entered them into a competition saying why they deserved the honour of accompanying players onto the pitch.
Reece said: “I’ve had the best day ever. I can’t believe I got to meet my favourite players and walk them out onto the pitch at Wembley!”
Ryan added: “This has been a day that I’ll never forget.”
Sir Geoff Hurst, McDonald’s director of football, said: “We’re proud at McDonald’s to have given the boys the chance to meet their football heroes and to enjoy the match up-close. It’s great to give these youngsters this experience as it’s something they will remember forever.”
The boys met Sir Geoff the previous week in a city centre McDonalds in Manchester where they had the chance to see the Community Shield.
