Van rental firm told to close down

A VAN rental business has been told it must stop operating from an established workshop site at Warrington.
Members of the borough council’s development control committee have thrown out a retrospective application by VMS Fleet Rental to use the site off School Lane, Rixton for the storage and maintenance of light commercial vehicles.
The committee was told the business involved keeping some 12 vehicles on the site and had been operating since October last year.
Ten nearby residents objected on the grounds of noise, fumes, traffic problems and loss of outlook and privacy.
Local councillor Bill Brinksman also opposed the application on the grounds of noise, traffic and disturbance.
The committee was told access to the site was via a small driveway from School Lane and the site was bounded by residential property, recreation land and a vehicle workshop building.
Two previous retrospective applications for a change of use to car repairs and car sales, repairs and servicing for in 1985 and 1997 were approved.
