£1.76m boost for transport projects

WARRINGTON is to receive a £1.76 million boost from a £30 million package of transport projects to support thousands of extra homes being built across the country over the coming months.
The package was announced by Housing Minister John Healey and Transport Minister Sadiq Khan – and was immediately welcomed by Warrington North MP Helen Jones (pictured)
Money from the Community Infrastructure Fund (CIF) will help fund crucial transport links to support the building of extra homes for first time buyers, families and people on waiting lists – and at Warrington will specifically go to the Chapelford and Bruche Pedestrian and Cycle Accessibility scheme.
It means improvements at three junctions in Warrington can go ahead to improve
walking and cycling links.
Building work is due to start within months and is part of the pledge to use the power of government investment to keep projects going during the recession.
John Healey said: “We need to ensure that people and families living in new homes have the transport links they need, whether this is a new road, new bus links or cycle paths. This £30m boost for councils places them at the centre of supporting homes, jobs and growth, which is good news for the local area.
“We are working closely with councils, The Homes and Communities Agency and the Department for Transport to ensure these projects are delivered in time. This work will also create construction jobs, help build new homes we need and make sure we have the transport in place to support development.”
Ms Jones said Warrington was one of only 12 scheme given the green light.
She added: “This is good news. The scheme represents real investment in our local economy, creating jobs and supporting development.”

  1. Yet more houses creating more traffic, but still NOT addressing the traffic problems. Ignoring them will not force people to leave their cars at home.

  2. I completely agree with you Peter.

When are these people going to realise that they are actually creating a future of total gridlock in the area with all the new developments .

No amount of additional bus lanes, Pedestrian or Cycle Accessibility schemes will make a jot of difference….

We live in the 21st century and wether they, or we, like it or not people will continue to use CARS as will the new people moving into all the new developments !!

PS.. where will all the new kids go to school though… thought they were cutting places and closing schools.

    Guess
