Tribute concert for musician

A TRIBUTE concert for a man well-known in brass band circles is being held in Warrington.
The brass band concert, at the Salvation Army Citadel and Community Centre on October 23, is in memory of former Warrington resident Bill Lacey.
Bill was born and brought up in the valleys of South Wales and learned to play an instrument when he was seven. He played and conducted in many bands including well-known bands such as Brighouse and Rastrick.
He taught many young people to play and his legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, who all play musical instruments. Most of them will be taking part in the tribute concert.
He and his wife Jean lived in Warrington until 1995, when they moved to Knutsford. He played in bands for more than 70 years, including Birchwood Community Band, until he stopped due to ill health.
Jean said: “He never gave up and his instrument, a euphonium, remained in its open case in the spare room, where he could pick it up and practice at any time.”
Sadly he died at the age of 80 after suffering from cancer for 12 years.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the East Cheshire Hospice. Tickets are available by phone on 07845 129925 or 07747 302064.
