Family portraits go on show

AN exhibition of paintings produced by parents and children who attended family portrait classes earlier this year has opened at Warrington Museum.
Organised at St Peter’s Primary School Family Learning Centre, Woolston by Janice Pounds, the borough council’s arts advisor and artist Mark Waterman, the aim of the course was to encourage parents and their children to learn together in an environment away from home.
“Students” attending the classes enjoyed tuition in portraiture, the use of acrylic paint, demonstrations of different painting techniques and art appreciation.
Jen who attended the classes with her 10 year old son, Jordan said: “When this opportunity came up my son and I jumped at the chance to try it. We both really enjoyed it and seeing the finished artwork exhibited in the museum was great.
“Mark – the artist – was great with Jordan. He was really patient, showing him how to get the best from his self portrait; I will definitely look out for more of these sessions in the future.”
The free classes were well attended and after the exhibition at the Museum finishes on Saturday, August 29, each family will get to keep their canvas.
