Poetry please
LONDON-based United Press Ltd is reminding local poets of their annual competition for poems about home towns. A poem about Warrington could win £1,000 and be published in an anthology. Entries should be no more than 20 lines and 160 words and should be sent to “Local Poems”, United Press Ltd, Admail 3735, London EC 1JB.

Hospital lottery
WINNING numbers in the weekly lottery run by the League of Friends of Warrington Hospital were 2, 5, 14 and 15. The jackpot prize was not claimed and will be rolled over to next week. A £25 consolation prize was awarded to a member of hospital staff.

Fun Day
FEARNHEAD Family Fun Day will be held at Lysander High School – formerly Padgate High School – on Saturday September 12. There will be a whole range of stalls and entertainments at the event, organised by the Station Road Neighbourhood Watch group.

New officer
Police Community Support Officer Ben Scholte has taken over from PCSO Paul Birch to cover the Appleton area of Warrington.

Summer house
RETROSPECTIVE planning approval has been grantd for a summer house at the rear of a house in Whitefield
Road, Stockton Heath, Warrington.

Portrait presented
A PORTRAIT of Coun Brian Axcell – the first serving member of Appleton Parish Council to be elected Mayor of
Warrington – has been presented to him by the parish council. It will hang in the Parish Hall during his term in office.
