Praise for outstanding school

A WARRINGTON school has been rated “outstanding” by inspectors from Ofsted.
After visiting Christ Church CE Primary School, Padgate, inspectors said the school’s successes rest with the outstanding quality of teaching and learning throughout the school and the excellent leadership and management at all levels.
Achievement and progress was rated exceptionally good over several years. By Year Six standards in English and Mathematics are well above average, yet the inspector noted that children did not feel under pressure and enjoyed their lessons.
Pupils’ personal development, including their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, was rated outstanding.
Inspectors also praised their behaviour, enjoyment of learning and knowledge of how to stay fit and healthy. All classes are involved in growing their own vegetables to promote their understanding of healthy living.
Work with external partners and promotion of community cohesion was also praised – as were links made with schools in Malawi and France.
Older pupils on the school council have good ideas which they carry through well – such as running the school’s stationery shop.
Inspectors visiting the Station Road site found that younger pupils excel in the nursery and reception classes, undertaking activities that are “engaging, educational and fun!”
Head teacher Ian Williams said: “I am very pleased with this report and its findings.
“The school, as the report notes, does not rest on its laurels; we know we can further improve with the continued help and co-operation of parents, my fellow staff, the governors and of course our splendid pupils. My thanks to all who make this school such a special place.”
