Youth wants more informality

0

A CALL for more informal activities and the opportunity to access information using Facebook was made at the town’s second Youth Summit.
More than 80 local youngsters, aged 14 to 19, attended the event at the newly refurbished Orford Youth Base. They were discussing spaces and places for young people in Warrington.
They called for more informal activities in a safe, clean environment and the option to find information quickly by using Facebook and other newer technologies.
More youth clubs, new facilities such as youth cafés and cleaner/ safer parks, were also requested.
Council officers and members attended and were impressed with the enthusiasm, ideas and issues raised by the young people.
Coun Ian Marks, leader of the borough council, said: “This event was about engaging young people in the design and delivery of the services most relevant to themselves.
“Our next step is to reconvene a group of councillors and our partners to decide the way forward.”
New service delivery plans will be revealed in the autumn.
