Cyclists invited for free bike safety check

Cyclists are being invited to come down to Warrington’s temporary market next week, for free bike safety checks, security marking and much more.

Warrington Borough Council is hosting a special town centre event on Saturday September 15, aimed at town centre cyclists, families and shoppers. The event aims to promote safe and accessible cycling for all.

The Council’s Travel Choices team will be outside the market to encourage members of the public to come and talk about cycling, and there will be a range of activities on offer, with the opportunity to:

  • Bring your bike along, and have it security marked by Cheshire Police and safety checked by Cheshire Cycles (on a first-come, first-served basis).
  • Pick up a free set of bike lights, to help you stay visible as the nights get darker.
  • Tell us of any changes you’d like to see on the council’s official cycle map and pick up your free copy.
  • Have a go on some bikes – provided by the charity, Cycling Projects – which have been specially adapted to make cycling accessible for all abilities.

Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for transport, Cllr Hans Mundry, said: “This fantastic event gives local cyclists a great opportunity to protect their bike for free and get cycle safe.

“Cycling is a great way to stay fit and healthy, its greener, cleaner and cheaper, and we want to do all we can to support the borough’s cyclists – as well as those who are thinking of taking it up.

“Whether you are looking to for peace of mind if your bike is ever stolen or lost, you want to ensure you’re always visible on the roads, or you want to check your bike is in tip top shape, there’s something for everyone at this event – so why not come along?”

Warrington’s cycle map also greatly aids cycling in the town, and the map – as well as more information on travelling sustainably – can be found on the Travel Warrington web pages at www.travelwarrington.co.uk
