FIVE projects in Warrington have won funding totalling £202,000 in the latest round of grants awarded by waste recycling charity WREN.
This brings the total number of projects supported in Warrington and neighbouring Halton this year to 14, totalling more than £500,000.
The latest Warrington projects to benefit are:
Dorchester Residents Association, Great Sankey, £50,000 for the creation of a new play area.
Penketh Parish Council, £30,000 for a new roof and building improvements at Penketh Swimming Pool.
Stockton Heath Methodist Church, £50,000 for essential building renovations at Stockton Heath Community Hall, including toilets and new windows.
Older People’s Forum, £22,000 for essential building renovations, including disabled access, toilets, roof repairs and kitchen refurbishment at Warrington Baptist Church Community Hall.
Warrington Borough Council, £50,000 for lighting installations and footpath creation in Westy Park.
The money is generated by Waste Recycling Group Ltd (WRG) landfill operations throughout the UK via the Landfill Communities Fund.
Projects applying for grants from WREN need to be located within 10 miles of a WRG landfill site and are assessed locally by a panel of experts.
Project manager Richard Smith said: “We are able to fund a wide variety of community projects from play areas and skate parks to village halls and all communities in Warrington are able to apply.”
The next deadline for applications to WREN is September 2 and community groups are being encouraged to come forward with applications for capital projects.
