Joey rolls back the years

WARRINGTON Town manager Joey Dunn rolled back the years as a second-half substitute as The Yellows triumphed 8-0 in their opening pre-season friendly against the crew of the town’s adopted submarine HMS Turbulent.
Town wearing their new “Diamond Jubilee” kit and fielding a strong first team, were more than a match for the submariners despite a spirited performance from the visitors led by their commaning officer Ryan Ramsey – with one of the highlights of the game seeing the ship’s captain up-ending Town’s star striker Jimmy McCarthy, who got his revenge with a four goal tally.
The match was in aid of Mayor of Warrington Brian Axcell’s charity appeal fund, with money being raised for Warrington Charities Trust.
With Town leading 4-0 at the break, former player Joey pulled on the famous yellow jersey for the first time in two decades, showing a thinner hairline and wider waistline made little difference in front of goal as he buried a stunning strike into the back of the net, also going close on two other occasions.
The scoreline could have been much higher had it not been for the heroics of Turbulent’s man-of-the-match keeper who pulled off a string of fine saves.
Town will expect tougher opposition when Bury FC visit this coming Saturday (July 25) kick off 1pm.

Pictures show the crew of the Turbulent at a Town Hall reception to mark their visit, Town Manager Joey Dunn rolling back the years and Commander Ramsey ghosting passed Jimmy McCarthy.
