Couple escape from blaze house

A COUPLE escaped unharmed from their smoke filled home at Warrington early today after being aroused by their smoke alarm.
The blaze was at a house in Huston Gardens, Great Sankey and involved an electric dehumidifier which had been left on in a rear bedroom.
The couple closed a door on the fire and evacuated the premises after dialling 999 and fire crews were soon on the scene. The blaze was confined to the one room by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using hosereel jets.
A Fire Service spokesman said the incident illustrated the importance of smoke alarms, keeping doors closed and having a well defined escape route.
It also undermined the importance of not leaving non-essential electrical appliances on overnight.
