Daylight robbery on busy street

POLICE are hunting a thief who robbed a 19-year-old man of his mountain bike in broad daylight on a busy road at Warrington.
The robbery occurred at traffic lights on Liverpool Road at Sankey Green.
Althugh the victim was unhurt he was left badly shaken.
He was riding along Liverpool Road towards Warrington when he was approached by the offender, also riding a cycle, and engaged in conversation. The other man then rode off along an alleyway and the victim continued towards Warrington until he had to stop at traffic lights.
The offender then reappeared from an alleyway near Thewlis Street and attacked him. There was a struggle in which the victim was robbed of his mobile phone and his black and silver bike. The offender then rode off on the bike towards Penketh.
Police say he had a gaunt face, had short dark hair and was about 5ft 8 inches tall.

A police spokeswoman said: “This was a very busy road and it was in the middle of the day and there must have been plenty of people about at the time.”.
