ALMOST £85,000 has been distributed to community groups in the borough since the launch of the Warrington Grassroots scheme.
Latest successful grant application came from Sankey Brook Credit Union.
Nigel Bacon, chief executive of Warrington Council for Voluntary Services (CVS), which administer the scheme, said: “The panel reviewed the application from Sankey Brook Credit Union and in the current financial climate the services they are providing to the community are both invaluable and in demand.
“Warrington is full of small community groups such as Sankey Brook Credit Union who all work tirelessly to tackle local problems.
“The Grassroots scheme is dedicated to supporting their efforts.”
However, the current grant scheme runs only until March 2011 – which is the support of local businesses and individuals is needed to get involved in the Endowment Challenge to continue to give to the community after then.
Mr Bacon added: “I am aware that 2011 seems a long time away but we have the added incentive now because for every pound donated to the Challenge, we can get a pound from the Government and it isn’t very often the Government give money away!”
