A WARRINGTON teenager who took the plunge to become an apprentice plumber – secured his dream job on the morning of his GCSE maths exam.
Jordan Mahoney, from Hood Manor who is now celebrating his GCSE results, is excited to be following in his grandad’s footsteps by starting his career as a plumber.
The 16-year-old, who secured 11 GCSEs and received a Merit in his BTEC on construction, met his future employers, Ashley and Mcdonough, while they completed work at his family home on behalf of Warrington Housing Association.
Jordan took an interest in helping the workman, who was fitting a new boiler, and he was so impressed with the youngster’s enthusiasm and attitude that he went back to the office to recommend him for an apprenticeship.
An interview took place on the morning of his GCSE maths exam and Jordan found out he was successful before having to go back to school. He will now begin his apprenticeship with Warrington and Vale Royal College in September.
Jordan said: “When Ashley and Mcdonough came to the house, it really made me think about how much I would like to get into plumbing and I really enjoyed helping and learning more about the job from the workman. I was nervous in the interview, but I am really excited to start the apprenticeship and I would like to thank everyone that has helped me. My family are really proud – and it feels nice that I am following in my grandad’s footsteps.”
Mike Ashley, managing director of Ashley and Mcdonough, said, they are delighted to have appointed Jordan.
He said: “We are always keen to attract motivated and enthusiastic recruits. We hope Jordan has a successful and rewarding career with us – thanks go to Warrington Housing Association as well, as our contract with them meant we were able to cross paths with him.”
