A WARRINGTON man will be taking on one of the toughest physical challenges in Europe, the Swiss Peaks Challenge, to raise money for World Child Cancer.

Pete Ackerley, Associate Finance Director at Galliford Try Partnerships North West, who lives in Callands, will be racing 90km through the Swiss Alps and climbing 18,400 feet – the equivalent of scaling two thirds of the way up Mount Everest – in a gruelling race which will take place next month.

Pete is running to help raise money for World Child Cancer, Galliford Try Partnerships’ charity for 2018. World Child Cancer supports children with cancer, and their families, in nine programmes across Africa, Asia and Central America. And Galliford Try Partnerships has committed to raising £50K nationally for the charity this year with the North West office contributing over £5,000. This race will take them a step closer to their target.

Pete said: “I’m very excited to be taking part in the Swiss Peaks Challenge which will take me on an intensive route through some of the highest mountains in Europe. Even though I do take part in endurance running events, this is tough race and it’s going to be a test of my mental and physical fitness but I’m determined to finish and raise money on behalf of World Child Cancer.”

Brendan Blythe, Regional Managing Director, Galliford Try Partnerships, said: “The North West office has committed to raising over £5,000 for World Child Cancer in 2018 and Pete’s incredible effort will really help us to reach that goal.

“This charity helps the lives of thousands of children with cancer and their families in some of the poorest countries in the world.”
