PEACE campaigners Colin and Wendy Parry, founders of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, are to receive Honorary Doctorates tomorrow (Friday).
The couple, who set up the foundation after the IRA bombing of Warrington in 1993 which killed their son Tim, 12, and Johnathan Ball, three, will receive the award from the University of Bradford.
The foundation works with young people and adults to tackle issues such as racism, prejudice and violence, and works with victims of political violence in the UK and overseas.
Mr and Mrs Parry will receive the award for their work for the foundation and promoting peace. Their doctorates will be presented by the university chancellor, Imran Khan.
Vice chancellor Professor Mark Cleary said: “We look forward to welcoming our honorary graduates. It is with great pride that we have been given this opportunity to honour these distinguished colleagues and their achievements are an impressive testament to their talents.”
Colin Parry said: “My wife Wendy and myself are absolutely delighted that the charity we founded and the work which we do in memory and honour of Tim and Johnathan, have been recognised by bestowing upon us the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Bradford.
“For this accolade to be given to us both is even more special for us and our family and I feel sure that Tim would wear a beaming smile of pride for his parents’ hard work in his name.”
