PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are being asked to approve the conversion of a former community centre into a hot food takeaway.
The plan involves the change of use of part of the Longbarn Local Centre in Pasture Lane, Fearnhead – built about 35 years ago but believed to have been standing unused for about 12 months.
The centre has already been sub-divided and the other part is now in retail use.
Borough councillors representing the area – Iona Gillis, Sharon Wilson, Scott Wilson and Colin Oliver – have lodged objections
The building is close to the entrance to the Longbarn estate, off Harpers Road at the junction with Pasture Lane and Fallowfield Grove.
Nearby are a row of terraced two and three storey houses.
The building was originally used for retailing but was changed to a community centre in 2000. Two previous applications for hot food takeaways have been thrown out on the grounds of noise, disturbance and lack of off street parking.
Planning officers say there should be no harm to residential amenity, subject to restrictions on opening hours. Potential concerns over cooking smells can be dealt with by installing odour extraction equipment.
Fourteen nearby residents have objected on the grounds of smells, litter, noise and anti-social behaviour.
