WARRINGTON Town fell to a 2-0 defeat to Football League side Tranmere Rovers in their first home pre-season friendly.
With the new league season still more than a month away, boss Paul Carden experimented with a number of trialists against his former club.
New signings Alex Honeyball and Josh Amis started for the Yellows, while there was also a welcome return for Mitch Duggan, playing against his former club.
Liam Hynes started, having sat out the majority of last season with a knee injury, as did Matt Makinson, who ended the season at Cantilever Park.
There was a familiar face in opposition too, with goalkeeper Luke Pilling starting for Tranmere, having spent a large part of last season on loan with the Yellows.
Jonny Smith put Tranmere in front on 32 minutes, converting from Ben Tollitt’s pull back, though the Yellows did have a number of chances, only to be denied by Pilling.
Substitute Paul Mullin made sure of the win with 18 minutes to play, turning home from a corner after a Connor Jennings header.
The Yellows are next in action this Saturday away to Runcorn Town, before welcoming Stockport County to Cantilever Park on Tuesday.
