Honours even!

THE silky skills of the Cheshire Cats met the size and power of Coventry Bears.
The outcome was a fine match resulting in honours even. Cheshire started the brighter and after a number of close calls on the Coventry line, Connor Byron provided swift service from dummy half to send Dylan Waters surging in under the posts. Ethan Jude converted to give Cats a 6 – 0 lead. Coventry began to realise that they were no match for the Cats’ handling and backing up and so had to resort to size and strength.
The Cats, however, showed great on-line defence – with Toby Phillips to the fore – to keep the home side scoreless at half time.
On the restart the huge Coventry player, Elliott Norman, finally crashed over. Darwin Richards added the extras to level the score at 6 apiece. The Cats were moving the ball around brilliantly. Despite an injury to Jake Taylor they made the pressure tell as a repeat move saw Byron send Waters over for his second try. Taylor goaled and the Cats led 12 – 6. A strong Coventry team were not to be denied and Norman completed his brace with another powerhouse effort which Richards goaled. With the scores tied the final moments were tense with the Cats ending the game camped on the Bears’ line.
Cheshire Cats’ Director of Development and Performance, Ben Povey, was delighted with the display: “We played great, expansive rugby and defended well against a very big team. It was also pleasing to see the sport developing in the Midlands.”
Double try scorer, Dylan Waters, was chosen as the Cats’ player of the match with Ethan Jude, Connor Byron and Taylor Boyne also starring. There were also telling contributions from Jay Bridle, George Pemberton, Daniel Munt, Oliver Fleming and Ross McKinnon.
