Inspector rejects glazed feature

PLANS to replace an existing dwelling in Stonepit Lane, Croft, with a new one featuring a striking, two-storey glazed atrium at the front, have been rejected by a Government-appointed inspector.
He has dismissed an appeal by the developer against the refusal by Warrington Borough Council to grant permission for the scheme.
Planning consent already exists for the demolition of the existing property and its replacement with a two-storey house. But the new application involved the addition of the glazed atrium.
The inspector said there was no objection in principle to glazed designs in rural locations but in this case the proposed feature would depart from the simple rural character of adjoining buildings.
A borough council spokesman said the inspector’s decision confirmed the need to determine every application on its individual merits, having regard to the existing character of the area.
