RAIDERS got away with cash from one of Warrington’s biggest retail stores after forcing a member of staff to open a safe.
They wheeled the cash out of the IKEA store at Westbrook in a shopping trolley after punching the staff member – a 24-year-old local man – in the face.
Police are appealing for help from anyone who may have been near the store at about 11.10pm on Monday – in particular anyone who may have see three men fleeing the area in a dark coloured Audi saloon.
The drama started when the three offenders arrived at the store – one of them carrying an axe.
Two staff members were outside the store at the time and the raiders forced one of them back into the building.
He was taken to a secure office area and forced to open a safe after being threatened and punched in the face.
The offenders were all wearing dark clothing.
The Audi was seen driving off in the direction of the Marks and Spencer store.
Anyone who can help is asked to call police on 0845 458 000 or to leave a message on the confidential Crimestoppers line, 0800 555 111.
