Town flies the flag

TOMORROW is Armed Forces Day – and Warrington is already flying the flag for servicemen and women…veterans and those taking part in current conflicts.
A flag-raising ceremony was held at the Town Hall, presided over by the Mayor of Warrington, Coun Brian Axcell.
Representatives from the Duke of Lancaster’s Regimental Association, three service members of the Duke of Lancaster’s 4th Battalion and the NGVFA (National Gulf Veterans and Families Association) were in attendance.
Tomorrow a special event will be held at Alford Hall, Manchester Road featuring stalls, face painting, bouncy castle and live entertainment from midday until late.
It has been organised by David Morrison, who served in the first Gulf War with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
The day will start at 12 noon with plenty of family fun, including a bouncy castle, tombola, dance troupe, six live bands, etc.
David said: “It’s not an occasion like Remembrance Day – it’s a day to have some fun.
“Everyone is offering their services free and the fun will go on until midnight.
“We will be raising money for the National Gulf Veterans’ and Families Association – the only charity for Gulf War veterans.”
More details are available from 01925 637474.
A display of military vehicles and an army recruitment stand will be in the town centre as part of the classic car show also happening tomorrow.
