Settling the future of 8,800 homes?

A CONFERENCE which could settle the future of Warrington’s 8,800 council homes is to be held in the town next week
Tenants of the houses – currently owned by the borough council but managed by Golden Gates Housing – will be able to give their views at the meeting between 11am and 3pm on Tuesday (June 30) at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Last year the borough council agreed to support tenants’ views and take steps to transfer ownership of the 8,800 properties to Golden Gates Housing (GGH).
This would mean GGH becoming a stand alone, not for profit housing association, able to borrow money to improve and maintain standards in tenants’ homes.
For this to happen tenants have to vote in favour of transfer in a ballot – and the conference will explain the transfer process and give details about the offer document.
Doreen Moors, chairman of the Tenants’ Consultative Panel, said: “Tenants have been at the heart of this review and have worked with the council and Golden Gates Housing to ensure the offer document includes improvements to homes and services that tenants wanted.
“I would encourage all tenants to attend this conference to find out what this transfer would mean for them and their homes.”
Conference places are free to tenants and out of pocket expenses will be provided. There are free prize draws throughout the day and refreshments and lunch will also be provided.
