Pedal-powered bus needs a lift

A WARRINGTON student who is taking part in a sponsored ride in a vintage pedal-powered bus is looking for someone to help bring the vehicle to the North West.
Charlie Delaney, 19, is a member of Liverpool University Air Squadron based

in Southport.
The group comprises 60 students all studying full time degrees at universities in the North West, with the opportunity to learn to fly among many other activities.
Charlie said: “On July 7 we’re planning to cycle a 43-seater pedal powered bus around the taxiways of RAF Woodvale for 50 miles.
“The bus travels at a maximum speed of only seven miles an hour so it will take us just under eight hours to complete… if we all pedal to our full potential the whole time!”
The students hope to raise £5,000 for the charity Help for Heroes – which helps those wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.
Charlie, from Lymm, said: “It is a massive amount of money for a bunch of students to try and raise.
“Help for Heroes is obviously a massively poignant charity at the moment, especially to us, as Liverpool University Air Squadron is a part of the RAF, and many of our students are either joining the forces when they finish their degrees at university or have friends who are already serving.”
The group have a problem as the bus is based in Essex and the company that was due to move it cannot do so, as their low loader has been involved in an accident.
They are looking for someone who can move the 3.1 metre long bus, weighing 3.5 tonnes, so that the event can go ahead.
Charlie said: “If anyone can move our bus then we would be so grateful as the charity event can then take place and we can pedal our hearts out.”
Anyone who can help should contact Charlie at [email protected]

  1. as it is for the help for heroes charity could they not approach the RAF or army to see if they could help in some way. if they have equipment for transporting tanks and such maybe they might be able to “borrow” one to transport the bus.

or naybe they could get the TA to help and treat it as an exercise in logistics
