FORMER Warrington man Eddie Johnston, who emigrated to Australia more than 30 years ago, has died at the age of 89.
Born in Scotland, Mr Johnston served in the RAF and was stationed at Padgate during the war, where he met his wife, Marjorie, who was a member of an old Warrington family, the Summerfields.
Her father, Arthur Summerfield, had a fruit and vegetable stall on the market for many years and served on the borough council in the 1930s.
Mr Johnston and his wife lived in Chester Road, Grappenhall.
He worked at Rubery Owen during the 1950s and later at Metro Cutinet at Grappenhall.
Daughter Pamela Sutcliffe emigrated to Australia in 1971 after living for a time in Brackley Street, Stockton Heath. She worked at Joan Mounfield’s hair salon for years.
Mr Johnston was a member of the Warrington Caledonian pipe band around 1953 to 56. He was also a keen bowler and a member of Grappenhall Ex-Serviceman’s Club.
He and Marjorie joined Pamela “Down Under” in 1977 and Marjorie died in 1988.
Emailing from Perth, Pamela said: “Dad still has friends who live in Warrington.”
