Students nominated for Oscars

A GROUP of university students from Warrington has been nominated for the prestigious D&AD Awards – the advertising industry’s equivalent of the Oscars – for outstanding creativity in design and advertising.
The students, Will Bollen, Jerry Clark, Christine King, Muna Mohammed and Sharleen, are all studying at the Warrington campus of Chester University.
They are the only UK student team in the worldwide competition to be nominated in the Integrated Advertising category, having produced a viral video and integrated marketing campaign using social networking site Facebook for the mobile phone company Blyk.
Kate Sillitoe, module leader in viral marketing and public relations, said: “The work produced by the students in response to Blyk’s brief was of an exceptionally high standard. In their category they are up against some extremely strong competition from students from Sweden, USA and Spain, and are certainly worthy contenders.”
Greg Quinton, the D&AD education chairman, added: “Student Awards work was judged with the professional awards this year, and frankly it was difficult to tell the two apart – a testament to the quality of the work submitted. The creative standard is simply brilliant this year. Answering a brief for the Student Awards is a big challenge, and the judging is of the highest standard possible.”
Nominated work will be showcased at D&AD New Blood at the National Hall in Kensington Olympia in London. The winners will be announced on July 2 at the Student Awards Ceremony at King’s Place, London, and online on July 3.
D&AD is an educational charity that represents the global creative, design and advertising communities.
