Traffic delays on M56 at Lymm as firefighters tackle blazing vehicles

A fire involving four vehicles on the M56 junction 9 Lymm interchange caused lengthy traffic delays this morning.

Officers from Cheshire Police are currently in attendance at the scene of a fire at the M56 junction 9, Lymm interchange.

The fire involved four vehicles – a van and a flatbed truck which was carrying a car.

As a result of the incident lane closures are currently in place at the eastbound slip road off the M56 onto the M6. There are long delays and drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible.

There are no reports of any injuries at the current time.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to fight the fire involving the vehicles on the hard shoulder.

Fuel leaked from one of the vehicles and the Environment Agency has been informed that a mixture of fuel and water has entered the drains.

Firefighters used an extension ladder to fight the fire from above.

Update 10.34: Two lanes of the motorway have been re-opened and the fires have been put out.
