WARRINGTON Wolves’ prop forward Mike Cooper has signed a contract extension with the club until November 2020.

Cooper, 29, is in his second stint at Warrington having come through the club’s system from community side Latchford Albion. He made his debut in 2006 and has now made 172 appearances. He has also represented England on the international stage.

In 2014 he made the move over to the NRL to play for St George Illawarra Dragons where he spent three seasons before re-signing for his home town club in 2017. He holds heritage number 1068.

Head coach Steve Price said: “Mike’s still got a lot of good years ahead of him; the players love playing with him so it was an easy one. I was the one who got Mike over to Australia. I know what he’s about. He’s been first class. He drives good standards at training and he’s been one of our most consistent performers this season to date.”

Cooper added: “I’m really happy to be staying. At this stage in my career I’m not looking to go anywhere else. I’ve been coached by Pricey before at St George and I’m enjoying working with him again. I’m enjoying my role within the club and the way the team is bonding with what Pricey, Hendo and Briersy have brought in. It’s a really positive place and somewhere you want to be playing at, and I have no doubt we will be winning trophies here in the future.

“We’ve never had as tight a group of players as we have now. The positivity around the camp is brilliant. We’ve created a tough steel behind the club and are going about everything in the right way.

“It’s always your dream as a kid to play for this town. I was a fan before I signed, I am still a fan now and always will be. For me the longer I can play here at Warrington the better.”
