A TRADER from Orford has been ordered to pay £1,350 in compensation after failing to deliver goods to customers.
After an investigation by Warrington Borough Council Trading Standards, Simon Leech, of Park Road, was sentenced at Warrington Magistrates Court. On April 25, Leech, 39, entered guilty pleas to two offences under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
The court heard that Leech misled consumers and provided false information surrounding the sale of two vans from his business One Stop Service, operating out of Alder Root Farm.
Having taken cash for the sale of the two vans Leech repeatedly offered excuses as to why the vehicles could not be collected by the consumers and as the months ticked by he continued to make excuses.
Leech’s solicitor told the court that, in effect, there had been no deliberate attempt to deceive or rip off the customer; his business had gone horribly wrong.
The defendant was sentenced to 80 hours’ unpaid work, ordered to pay compensation of £1,350 to the defendants at a rate of £40 per month.
