ENTRIES are now open for the annual photographic competition at the Daresbury Laboratory near Warrington.
The STFC Daresbury Laboratory Photowalk is open for amateur and professional photographers to take part in.
It offers a rare opportunity to capture behind-the-scenes images of some of the world’s most exciting and ground-breaking science.
Supported by the Royal Photographic Society, the Photowalk will take place on May 10 and 22 at Sci-Tech Daresbury. It forms part of both
a national and a major Global Physics Photowalk competition, which incorporates world leading laboratories across the UK, as well as in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
The Engineering Technology Centre is just one of the unique and fascinating areas that will be open to photographers as part of the competition.
Here, highly skilled engineers build critical parts for powerful particle accelerators across the world, such as for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and for others that are still under construction.
Professor Susan Smith, head of STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory said: “We are incredibly excited to be hosting the photowalk here at Daresbury Laboratory. This is a unique opportunity for photography enthusiasts to see some of the incredible and stunning science that happens right here in the North West, and to capture it from a new and exciting perspective.”
During the photowalk, participants will be able to take as many photos as they like and, if they wish, submit up to five entries within 10 days of the event. Entries will be judged regionally by a professional panel, including a representative of the Royal Photographic Society. The best 10 photographs from each participating UK site will be entered into
the national competition at STFC’s other sites in the UK, and will be judged by the general public. The winning photos will then be submitted as the UK entries for the Global Physics Photowalk competition.
Entry to the Photowalk is free but by registration only as places are limited. Participants can register online at https://stfcphotowalk2018.eventbrite.co.uk.
Further details about the regional, national and international stages of the Photowalk competition can be found at www.stfc.ac.uk\photowalk, and at www.interactions.org.
