A CRICKET club celebrating its 125th anniversary is inviting former players to return to play a present-day XI on Sunday, July 5.
Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club will stage the match on “President’s Day” to round-off a week-long cricket festival from June 29.
The club has also published a new history entitled “125 not out” which gives a fascinating glimpse of cricket at Oughtrington Lane from 1884 to the present day.
Lymm Oughtrington Park started as St Peter’s Oughtrington and was founded by the then vicar, the appropriately named Rev WG Knocker!
Weather permitting, there will be cricket every day during the festival week – which forms part of this year’s Lymm Festival – including an all-day match on the Thursday.
The President’s Day game will be an Old Lymm XI against a present-day Lymm Select side. Former players are being invited to make themselves available or, if they have finally hung up their boots, turn up as a guest.
There will also be music and food and the bar in the newly refurbished pavilion will be open each evening
Former chairman and one of the organisers, Bob Dougall, said: “The club offers an open invitation to the Lymm public to join us any evening, or particularly over the President’s Day weekend.”
The club history – which includes comprehensive statistics – is available at £8 from Bob on 01925 753003 or email [email protected]
