Pay and display will be sympathetic

NEW pay and display machines to be erected on a village car park will be painted in a “sympathetic colour” – because it is a conservation area.
There will also be minimal signage at the car park in Pepper Street, Lymm, says Warrington Borough Council.
Pay and display parking was originally due to be introduced on the car park on May 1 but the council is still not able to give a date when it will be installed, other than that it will be “this summer.”
Traders in Lymm, who had run a lengthy campaign for the parking restriction are angry over the delay – caused because the machines were only ordered a week before they were due to be installed.
They say parking problems are damaging trade in the village centre.
The council says the new facilities will create short stay shopper’s car park to assist local businesses, with a maximum free stay of 2 hours.
Beyond this time period the following fees will apply: 2-4 hours £2.10 and more than four hours £10.
The charges will apply between 8am-6pm Monday to Saturday.
A council spokesperson said: “A sympathetic colour of machines and minimal signage are planned as Lymm is a conservation area.”
The other car parks in the village on Davies Way and Henry Street will provide longer free stay parking spaces.
