APPLETON based concillor Brian Axcell, has been sworn in as the 126th Mayor of Warrington at the annual council meeting.
Originally from Chelmsford, Essex, Brian has lived in the Northwest since 1969 and in Appleton for over 30 years.
He joined the Liberal Party in 1983, has been a Parish Councillor in Appleton since 1990 (twice Chairman) and Borough Councillor for Appleton since 1991.
He was a Member of Executive Board from 2006 until 2008, a Director of the Cheshire Community Council, a member of Bridgewater Canal Trust and the Council’s representative on the committee of the Warrington Youth Orchestra.
Coun Axcell said: “In my year of office I would like to do all I can to support and encourage local community groups and charities. At a difficult time economically it is quite likely that some groups will have greater demands placed upon them, just when finances are tight.
“Because of this, my chosen charity will be the Warrington Charities Trust, which links local support to local need.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Coun Graham Welborn for his commitment and dedication during his mayoral year.”
Labour councillor John Joyce was appointed Deputy Mayor.
