MOBILE ‘phone giant O2 has submitted plans for a 57ft high telecommunications mast at Warrington – only two months after being refused permission for an identical mast only a few yards away.
The move has infuriated residents who fought a lengthy battle to get the first plan thrown out – and thought they had won.
Now they plan to attend a meeting of Appleton Parish Council tomorrow (Tuesday) to reinforce their opposition to the plan in Longwood Road.
The parish council opposed the earlier plan on the grounds the mast and associated equipment would damage the character and appearance of the area because of their size and prominent position.
Borough planners subsequently threw the proposal out.
Residents claim there is no evidence the company has investigated sharing masts with other mobile operators.
They point out the site is close to a well-used children’s play area and claim the mast and equipment cabin proposed could distract motorists and affect the amenity of pedestrians.
Parish councillors will have to decide whether to again support the residents.

it is time that something was sorted about this sort of planning application. maybe a ban on submitting a similar plan within a one mile radius of the original plan for a period of two years. this would certainly be a sensible approach and save a lot of time and expense of the councils.
I’m not a nimby, and would not have had a problem with the original tower, but when a company does a dirty trick like resubmitting permision after a refusal just a few yards away, thats just being sly and underhanded and dirty..and then when its a company you thought you could respect like O2..eww!, I don’t think I will ever want to dirty my hands with their service now, if thats the way they behave.
Presumably the people who object to these masts will be showing their anger by not having a mobile phone themselves. If not, their objections are invalid.
