60 per cent will be obese warning

A WARNING that if people do not change their habits 60 per cent of the population will be obese by 2050 has been given by a Warrington MP.
Warrington South MP Helen Southworth (pictured) is urging local families to commit to change and sign up for the Fitter Families initiative, led by Gladiators host and former England striker Ian Wright.
She said being obese increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Families can sign up at www.fitterfamilies.com and commit to simple, achievable and sustainable lifestyle changes, which will increase their long term fitness.
The MP said: “Family fitness is a crucial issue, not just in Warrington South but around the UK.
“I admire the small steps that Ian Wright advocates, as constituents often tell me that they find it hard to find time for a rigorous exercise regime or diet, which often doesn’t last. I’ll be signing up to Fitter Families and seeing if I can commit to change, and I encourage my constituents to do the same.”
Ian said: “I think that it’s important people in Warrington do have the chance to commit to change and that’s why role models are so important. Helen Southworth is setting a great example to families and I want to hear how it goes.
“This is all about making small changes for a better, healthier lifestyle, not running a marathon or giving up sweets! This means simple, achievable and sustainable changes for the long term future health of your family.”
