Committees that don't meet

IS there any point in appointing people to serve on committees that do not meet?
The question was posed at Stockton Heath Parish Council’s annual meeting when members were asked to appoint representatives to 17 committees or other bodies.
But some councillors, who had been appointed to the same bodies last year, said they had not been called to any meetings.
Among groups which had not met were the Youth Provision Working Party and Red Lane Allotments Working Party.
Coun Stephen Taylor said should any issues arise the committees and working parties were there to deal with them.
