Girl escapes bedroom blaze

A TEENAGE girl escaped unhurt at Warrington when a smoke alarm alerted her to a fire in her bedroom.
The blaze was at a house in Steel Street shortly before midnight.
Fire crews were called to the scene and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with a hosereel jet.
Cause of the blaze was a candle placed on top of a television.
It burned down after the girl had fallen asleep and set fire to the television.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “Fortunately she was awoken by the smoke alarm and managed to escape unhurt.
“The television was destroyed and there was minor smoke damage in the bedroom, but the rest of the house was unaffected.”
Fire crews also went to Biggin Court, Padgate last night when fire broke out in the kitchen of a house due to a pan of fat being left on a cooker. A neighbour extinguished the blaze with a wet tea towel before firefighters reached the scene.
A smoke alarm – fitted only a couple of weeks previously – alerted the neighbour to the fire. Only minor smoke damage was caused in the kitchen.
