Linda is a super learner

AN NHS worker from Warrington is one of five from across the North West to be picked as a “super learner” in the region’s awards to coincide with Adult Learners Week.
Linda Farnworth is a corporate trainer at NHS Salford but lives in Warrington.
She has won an award in the Supporting Learners in Practice category and, along with the other four winners, will be presented with her award at a ceremony at Stockport Art Gallery on Thursday.
Linda is 49 and joined the training department with a district nursing background in 2006. She had no formal qualifications as a trainer and has undergone a steep learning curve in order to deliver training to the workforce.
She is in the second year of her Certificate in Education and has undertaken a number of additional courses including First Aid Trainer in order to broaden her portfolio of training delivery.
She has undertaken the certificate in Supported Learning and has attended a number of study days to develop her knowledge of dyslexia and ways to provide support to learners.
Gaye Jackson, of NHS North West, said: “These people have all been picked because they are real ‘super learners’. The awards specifically reward individual achievement in learning and supporting others to learn, not the organisation they work for.
“The NHS would not be able to grow and develop without the determination of staff members like these to transform their own skills.”
NHS North West spent £10 million (including £5 million from the Learning and Skills Council) last year on continuing personal development for support staff. A further £4.8 million was spent on the development of professionally registered staff, plus £3 million on new ways of training staff for innovative roles in the NHS.
