New piano makes its bow

AN audience of more than 100 people attended the first recital given on the new piano at Warrington’s Holy Trinity Church.
Pianist James Willshire – originally from Culcheth – performed music by Schubert, Debussy, Scriabin and Liszt.
The Saturday lunchtime recitals at the town centre church are free and are organised by the Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music (WACIDOM).
The future of the recitals was in doubt because of the deteriorating condition of the ageing piano – until the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and a Grassroots grant via Warrington Council for Voluntary Service enabled a new piano to be purchased.
Most of the recitals are by young musicians, mainly from the Royal Northern College of Music and also give the public an opportunity to hear classical music in the town centre.
The vicar, the Rev Steve Parish said: “The free lunchtime concerts right at the heart of the town are a great chance to hear some talented young artists.”
More details are available from WACIDOM’s website www.musicinwarrington.org.uk
